Experienced systems/DevOps/software engineer that has supported the infrastructure of numerous public-facing live services, developed and operated supporting tools, and lead engineering teams to operational success. As a distributed systems and Internet services engineer I have worked to drive the value of technology resources by enhancing business processes, product offerings and customer satisfaction. Electronic Arts - EA Sports DevOps

Technical Lead
Technical leadership of HD game server operations, including EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, NHL, and UFC. Developing and socializing vision of technical evolution to realize efficiencies between common operational tasks across various sub-teams. Working directly on developing automated solutions that reduce toil and potential human error for the wide range of operational responsibilities of the team.
Highlights
  • Development of automated solutions involving Chef, Ansible, Kubernetes and custom Python code using cloud SDKs in support of the FC Ultimate Team server infrastructure migration from physical server hosting to public cloud.
  • Migration of various workloads from physical server to Kubernetes hosting as part of a cloud migration effort.
  • Design and guidance of migrating numerous source code repositories from Perforce to GitLab in support of the rich tooling ecosystem that was realized as a result.
  • Technical leadership and guidance to share personal experience in this technical domain, including mentorship, code reviews, pair programming and solutions design.

Lead server operations Systems Engineer responsible for the live service infrastructure and supporting operational tools across 3 launched titles and 2 pending launch titles.
Highlights
  • Successful launch of numerous game titles (and their yearly releases) including Madden NFL Mobile, NBA Live Mobile, FIFA Mobile. This support included a large MySQL user data migration for each per title-year.
  • Design, development and implementation of a customized data collection, alerting, and visualization toolset utilizing technologies such as Splunk, Logstash, Elasticsearch, Kibana, Grafana, Graphite, Prometheus, and Alertmanager.
  • Design and implementation of automated operations procedures such as infrastructure provisioning, software builds, deployments and stress testing utilizing Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins and custom Python software.
  • Dedicated complementary support to server Software Engineers through load testing efforts, including tools to analyze and profile results. Collaborated on designing cost-effective, scalable solutions that allowed significant concurrent usage spikes throughout the yearly cycle.
  • Migration of Madden Mobile server infrastructure from a physical to cloud hosting environment, including migration of customer data and greatly improved scalability.

Senior level systems engineer performing operations support and evolution of a multi-continent Content Delivery Network (CDN) including highly optimized HTTP-based multimedia caching and streaming media services.
Highlights
  • Provide tier 3 level support for a production Content Delivery Network with network POPs in three continents. This support includes troubleshooting customized HTTP software and load balancing technologies advertised to the Internet in an anycast routing configuration.
  • Support internal network management systems and AAA systems for centralized user management. Receive escalation of customer support requests for complex issues and work with software development team closely to provide diagnostic and debugging information to quickly solve issues to restore stable services.
  • Automation of commonly performed and complex tasks using bash, Perl and Python scripting.
  • Linux systems tuning including RAID storage/filesystems, TCP windowing behavior, and iptables/netfilter utilizing sysctl.
CenturyLink Corporation - Network Systems Management
March 2006 – July 2011
Technical Lead

Develop and lead the practice of core system administration practices such as event management, change management, asset management and technical project management. Highlights
  • Implementation of enterprise class LDAP infrastructure for a heterogeneous UNIX/Windows environment
  • Implementation of a full network management system suite for a large state government contract including CA Spectrum, eHealth, SiteMinder, Cleverpath Portal, and BMC Remedy
  • Installation and configuration of a Zabbix monitoring system for all systems' surveillance
  • Development of an SNMP MIB from scratch to integrate two network management systems to forward traps from one to another, including relevant alarm information
